Forsyth Parks, Recreation Facilities Now Tobacco, Vape Free

The use of tobacco and products, vapes or other alternative nicotine products are now prohibited at all parks and recreation facilities.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Smoking or vaping at Forsyth County parks is now a thing of the past due to a new ordinance recently approved.

During their Aug. 1 meeting, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved an ordinance making all county parks tobacco and vape free. The ordinance prohibits the use of tobacco, tobacco products, vapes or other alternative nicotine products in any form at all parks and recreation facilities, indoors and outdoors.

At public hearings on the topic, the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board and Forsyth County Health Department expressed their support for tobacco-free parks.

“Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disability in the U.S. so it made sense that the county adopt this ordinance for the safety of our residents,” said District 3 Commissioner Todd Levent. “We are glad that we are able to take these measures to ensure our parks are a healthy environment for all visitors as well as set a better example for our children.”

Forsyth County Park Rangers and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office are enforcing the new ordinance which is effective immediately. Appropriate signage will be placed throughout all county park facilities.

This new ordinance made Forsyth County the 22nd Georgia county to adopt a tobacco-free policy.
