Forsyth Schools Score Big On SATs, Graduation Rates

In both comparisons, Forsyth County had the highest numbers in metro Atlanta and the highest among the state's large school systems.

CUMMING, GA — Two key markers for educational achievement were released this week and, in both cases, Forsyth County's public schools came out looking good.

On college-readiness SAT tests, Forsyth County schools had the highest average score in metro Atlanta and the top score for large school districts in Georgia. Forsyth schools also finished tops in both of those categories on 2017 graduation rates released this week.

On the SATs, Forsyth students had a mean score of 1,146. That's compared to the statewide average of 1,050 and a national average of 1,060.

The individual scores for Forsyth's five public high schools were:

  • Forsyth Central: 1,091
  • Lambert: 1,187
  • North Forsyth: 1,117
  • South Forsyth: 1,186
  • West Forsyth: 1,127

"FCS students, staff, parents, community and business members, should all be very proud of our ACT and SAT rates," schools Superintendent Jeff Bearden said in a news release. "Improving the academic, social and emotional opportunities for our children is a community focus."

According to the Georgia Department of Education, the 2017 SAT results set a new baseline for future year-to-year comparisons and cannot be compared to previous results.

According to graduation rates released by the state education department this week, Forsyth students graduated at a rate of 94.4%. That's up from the district's 2016 score of 92.7% and exceeds the state average of 90%.
