A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy has received an award from the Sawnee Cumming Optimist Club for his work in raising money for a woman who was the victim of a car break-in.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Rodney Pirkle responded to an entering auto call earlier this year and interviewed the victim, a woman. She told the deputy that the thief had made off with $400 in cash, money she had been planning to use for a church trip.

Pirkle took it upon himself to get the woman her money back. He reached to out other deputies on his shift and dispatchers to pool together replacement funds for the woman. Within three hours, Pirkle’s efforts had raised over $400, which was donated to the victim.
