CUMMING, GA — A retired court reporter who worked in Forsyth and Cherokee counties has been identified as the woman killed Monday afternoon when winds from Hurricane Irma downed a tree on her vehicle in Cumming.

Nancy Eason, 67, was a passenger in the vehicle, which was in a private driveway off of Shadburn Road in Cumming. Forsyth County sheriff's deputies responded at 5:36 p.m. to reports that a large tree had fallen and hit a vehicle there.

Two occupants were trapped in the vehicle. The driver was Eason's husband, Mike Eason, who is a retired GBI special agent-in-charge and served as Cumming's police chief from 2005-2009. He was injured, but emergency responders were able to free him from the vehicle.
