The first month of 2018 has been a busy one for the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. The non-profit homebuilder celebrated the completion of the Lynch Family’s home in Northeast Forsyth County on January 20th. The sponsors who provided financial support and volunteers to build the 3-bedroom, 2-bath home were in attendance. A typical home built by Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia requires the contribution of 3,000 volunteer hours in addition to the professionals utilized for critical items such as electrical, plumbing, and hvac. The home’s sponsors included Hancock Claims, Wells Fargo, MarketSource, Certipay, Kimberly Clark, Infor, E*Trade, and North Georgia United Methodist Church Housing & Homeless Council.

Saralyn Lynch and her three children have been living in a cramped 2-bedroom apartment, and she feels blessed to be moving into a new home where her children can flourish. Saralyn stated, “This house is so beautiful and it means the world to me and my kids. We are grateful for the help of so many strangers who got involved to help make this dream come true for us.”

Just a week later, the first of three homes to be constructed a few miles away on Pea Ridge Road was officially recognized with a First Nail Ceremony. The Abbas Family will be moving from Alpharetta to be closer to their extended family here in Forsyth County. Tab Abbas has three children ranging in age from 7 to 14. The 4-bedroom home will be completed in May 2018 with the other two homes on this parcel starting later this year. The General Motors Foundation is providing the funding for the construction of the home and the majority of the volunteer labor. Funding to underwrite the cost of the land and additional volunteer support are being provided by Solvay Specialty Polymers LLC and the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd.
