Hammond's Crossing Gets Official Dedication

A Wednesday ceremony marked the official re-naming of the intersection of Highways 306 and 369 in Forsyth County.

CUMMING, GA -- The intersection of Highways 306 and 369 in Forsyth County is now officially Hammond's Crossing.

A dedication ceremony Wednesday afternoon marked the renaming, approved by the state legislature, county commission and Georgia Department of Transportation.

Hammond's Crossing has long been an economic hub in north Forsyth County. The first general store was built there around 1897 by William Henry Hammond.

"This philanthropic family also gives back to the community through their establishment of the Thomas Hammond High School Fishing Club Fund, which provides scholarships to new fishing clubs," the county said recently in a news release.

The naming of the intersection was approved by the General Assembly via Senate Resolution 952.

Hammond's Crossing was one of two Forsyth County intersections to get honorary names during this year's session of the Georgia General Assembly.

The intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 369 will be named Coal Mountain Intersection.

Just north of Cumming, the Coal Mountain area is home to Coal Mountain Baptist Church, established in 1886, and Coal Mountain Elementary School.

A dedication ceremony for Coal Mountain Intersection will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Coal Mountain Baptist Church, located on the southeast corner of the intersection of Highways 9 and 369.
