Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss turns 107 today and his Cat in the Hat, first published on March 1, 1957 is 54.
We all live in the Wubulous World of Dr. Seuss in one way or another, and today marks the day the amazing Seuss was born.
Students at started celebrating early, beginning the week with green eggs and ham for breakfast on Monday, and following up with scheduled Dr. Seuss-themed festivities for the remainder of the school week. But Dr. Seuss is more than just a pretty, furry face – his books are both entertaining and educational, as anyone who loves him will acknowledge.
Children young and old benefit from his stories, and kindergarten teacher Ben Rivers knows this firsthand. “Dr. Seuss books have been so helpful when I’m teaching word families and opposites. His illustrations capture the imagination of the reader in a world that is like no other, and together those attributes make Dr. Seuss books a staple in my classroom.”

Nikki Thomas, a mother of three, has that warm fuzzy feeling for Seuss as well. Her daughter, third grader McCall Thomas, still reads the books that Nikki herself read as a child. “I feel so blessed that I was able to pass these books along to my kids, and we have such a ball reading them together! I know they will remember every word to “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket” for the rest of their lives. We have read that book so many times that they have memorized it!”
Businesses around Cumming have joined in the fun as well. in Midway Family Festival boasts a Dr. Seuss Dog, a special hot dog made with all the toppings anyone in Seussville would enjoy. in Cumming is celebrating the milestone, as well as, participating in the National Read Across America Week with a special Cat in the Hat reading on Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m.

Cumming resident LeeAnn Egolf plans to attend with her sons Evan and Griffin. “We are huge Dr. Seuss fans. We eat green eggs and ham for breakfast to celebrate!” The Forsyth County Library in Cumming will be having a special story time and puppet show on Thursday, March 3. “Seussology” is ideal for kids ages 4-8, and promises to be just as fun to reminisce for the adults.
New to Dr. Seuss books? It’s never too late to become a fan. His quotes and messages are not lost on adults lacking the time to enjoy the simpler things in life. “If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good,” Dr. Seuss.
