Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Wednesday Evening

Downpours and locally heavy rain could result in localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement Wednesday afternoon, warning of the possibility of flooding rain this evening.

The advisory includes all of metro Atlanta, including Cumming.

In the 3 p.m. statement, the weather service said widespread heavy showers are possible through the evening, the product of a weak upper disturbance interacting with tropical moisture.

3:02 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9

TROPICAL SHOWERS WILL BRING PERIODS OF LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN.

WEAK UPPER DISTURBANCES WILL INTERACT WITH DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE TO PRODUCE WIDESPREAD HEAVY SHOWERS WITH OCCASIONAL EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THIS EVENING.

THE HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN COULD RESULT IN LOCALIZED STREET FLOODING, ESPECIALLY ALONG LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.

MOTORISTS SHOULD SLOW DOWN AND BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL DUE TO HYDROPLANING.
