Help A Horse Day: Learn how you can save a horse's life
Community support needed for Save the Horses to win a $25,000 ASPCA® grant that will help us save more horses!
CUMMING, Georgia (April 17, 2016) – Save the Horses will celebrate the ASPCA’s Help a Horse Day on April 24 where they will compete for a chance to win up to $25,000 in grant prizes to assist with their efforts to protect horses.
The public is invited to the Save the Horses farm in Cumming, GA to learn how they can make a difference in a horse’s life by providing responsible equine care. From 11am to 4pm, the rescue will hold an open house for guests to tour the farm and meet some of the nearly 100 horses and other animals that call the farm home.
Guests will be able to attend a series of free educational clinics on grooming, haltering, checking a horse’s vital signs, hoof care, chiropractic and equine body work. They will be able to learn about how to volunteer at the farm to help with daily feeding and other barn chores as well as what is involved to be able to sponsor or adopt a horse.

Donations Appreciated
While there is no charge to attend this event, donations are greatly appreciated. “It costs us about $10,000 per month to take care of our horses. We have no paid employees and every cent that comes in is used to care for the horses,” says Cheryl.
Save the Horses does not receive any federal funds so they are anticipating a strong turnout so that they can qualify for the ASPCA Help a Horse Day grant awarded to rescues that organize the most creative and informative Help a Horse Day event.
About ASPCA Help a Horse Day
In honor of the ASPCA’s 150th Anniversary celebration the ASPCA Help a Horse Day contest has been expanded to include a total of $100,000 in grant prizes. From Friday, April 22, to Sunday, April 24, equine rescue groups nationwide will host special events in conjunction with the ASPCA Help a Horse Day Contest—a nationwide grant competition for equine rescues and sanctuaries to raise awareness about the work they do to save and care for at-risk horses. Contestants will be judged on the creativity of their events, as well as their success in engaging their local communities to assist their efforts to protect horses and are eligible to win a grand prize of $25,000. Participating rescue groups will work to recruit new volunteers, expand their support bases, collect donated supplies and find homes for adoptable horses.
