High-Speed Chase Ends in Meth Trafficking Arrest

Forsyth County authorities say the driver tried to throw away meth during a chase that hit speeds of 70 m.p.h.

CUMMING, GA — What started as a routine traffic stop Monday night turned into a high-speed chase resulting in a methamphetamine trafficking bust.

At about 9:35 p.m., a Forsyth County Sheriff's deputy tried to stop an older model Ford Taurus for an equipment violation in the area of Jot Em Down Road and Ga. 400.

When the deputy activated his blue lights and siren, the Taurus turned onto Jot Em Down Road and began speeding away.

The chase continued on Jot Em Down Road toward Blue Ridge Overlook, turning right onto Crossroads Road and reaching speeds as high as 70 m.p.h.

It continued across Ga. 400 and ended at the intersection of Hubbard Town Road and Hopewell Road, when the car crashed into a roundabout.

The driver, whom deputies identified as Calvin Blackstone, 36, of Cumming, tried to run away and was taken into custody after a brief chase on foot.

During the car chase, deputies say Blackstone was seen throwing methamphetamine from his car. The meth was found and taken into evidence, along with more meth that was found in the Taurus and $812 in cash.

Blackstone was charged with failure to wear a seatbelt, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to obey a traffic control device, improper passing, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, driving with a suspended license, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, tampering with evidence and trafficking methamphetamine.

Blackstone is currently being held without bond at Forsyth County Jail.
