Home Invasion Attempt Thwarted By Forsyth Sheriff's Deputies

The Forsyth Sheriff's Office say deputies thwarted a home invasion attempt by making four arrests of men who were planning a robbery.

CUMMING, GA – The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office say deputies thwarted a home invasion attempt by making four arrests of men who were planning a robbery.

In January 2018, the deputies received an intelligence report of a potential future home invasion or robbery targeting a Forsyth County homeowner and crypto-currency such as bitcoin. The report indicated that individuals from out of state were possibly traveling to Forsyth County to commit the robbery.

On Monday, Jan. 29, Sheriff’s deputies were called to a local hotel for reported drug activity. Detectives found four men in possession of zip ties, latex gloves, duct tape and bandana’s. Due to insufficient evidence of a crime, the men were released.

On Jan. 30, Adams and McDermont were arrested near the Atlanta airport attempting to leave the area by plane. Adams fled from deputies and after brief foot chase, Atlanta Police Department and Forsyth County deputies arrested Adams.

South and Schwartz fled the area, flying to Chicago from Atlanta before police arrived. The Sheriff’s Office sent two detectives to Chicago where they were able to arrest South and Schwartz with assistance of the Chicago Police Department. Both were extradited back to Forsyth County. A fifth suspect was identified as Justin Ellison of Illinois. He was interviewed in Illinois by Forsyth detectives and arrested after further investigation. Ellison was arrested by the United States Marshall’s Service in Worth, Illinois May 10 and was extradited back to Forsyth County Detention Center May 11.

The case is pending prosecution by the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office and all suspects are currently in the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Detention Center without bond.

"The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is committed to pursuing criminals regardless of where it may take us. Forsyth County is certainly not the place to plan such a criminal act," reads a Facebook post from the Sheriff's Office.
