Hello from San Francisco! As you may already know, I have been vacationing in beautiful California to celebrate 25 years with my wonderful husband; however, for a foodie, no vacation is complete without a tour of the tastes which make any city unique. Having spent time sampling Ghirardelli chocolates and some amazing French bread last week, we recently found ourselves amidst the colorful sweetness of the Jelly Belly manufacturing plant.
Since we use Jelly Belly beans in a large portion of our gift basket designs—particularly tobacco flavored Jellies in our Bloody Mary basket, as well as draft beer Jellies in our beer basket—it was wonderful to experience their creation in person!
While we weren’t permitted to take pictures within the manufacturing portion of the facility, they had an amazing area filled with famous paintings that were recreated using nothing but Jelly Bellies (which were comprised of an average of 10,000 beans)! Personally, I found myself fascinated by their portrayal of Norman Rockwell’s “Rosie the Riveter.” It’s obviously an extremely well-known painting, but I’ve always found myself drawn to what it means for women—especially the women who went to work in the manufacturing plants during World War II. To this day, I am in awe of their strength, and seeing the painting’s recreation in such an unexpected place only served to reinforce my belief that truly, women can do anything they put their minds to.
