Here are the top stories today in Cumming:
- Traffic in downtown Cumming near the courthouse is going to get worse. The left turning lane on E. Main Street will close starting today to allow for the construction of a new parking area beside the courthouse. The lane will be closed for the duration of the project with an anticipated reopening in late 2022 (weather permitting). During construction, please refrain from walking in the road and instead use the sidewalk on the opposite side of Main Street. Please cross the road at the traffic signals in the designated crosswalks as this is often a busy thoroughfare. (Forsyth County Government).
- The Kiwanis Club of Forsyth County is partnering with Food for Thought to tackle food insecurity in the community. To help, participants can be a driver for picking up and dropping off food donations, receive and sort food donations or participate in the Orange Bag food drive program. The next project is Saturday, August 13 starting at 10 a.m. (Kiwanis of Forsyth)
- The Alpharetta Planning Commission approved the preliminary plan for a $500 million redevelopment of North Point Mall. The developer made the changes the commission wanted, including having fewer rental units and more units for homebuyers. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
