Lanier 400 Parkway Extension in Cumming Now Open

The extension runs all the way to Pilgrim Mill Road now.

CUMMING, GA -- The extension of Lanier 400 Parkway in Cumming is now open to drivers.

The highly anticipated strip of road roughly parallels Ga. 400, linking Pirkle Ferry and Pilgrim Mill roads. Before, as the Forsyth County News reports, it stopped near the Forsyth County Juvenile Court, but the road now extends to near the Cumming Aquatic Center, the University of North Georgia campus and National Guard readiness center.

“It’ll be an east bypass, because we think it’s going to alleviate a lot of intersection traffic downtown,” Cumming Mayor H. Ford Gravitt told the paper. “So we’re happy that we were finally able to get the road ready and the citizens can use it at their convenience.”

A ribbon-cutting for the new extension was held on Tuesday.

Even though there were delays to the project, Gravitt said it came in under budget, costly roughly $5.5 million of the $6 million allocated. Funding for the project came from Forsyth County's 1-percent local-option sales tax.
