Local Lambert High School Graduates "Bring It" to Local Community Theatre 5230 This Week

Parents who worry about their children pursuing theatre may want to learn just what it takes for students who have been working to prepare for Community Theatre 5230's production of Bring It On: The Musical. Rehearsing at least 4 hours nightly for two solid months demonstrates the rigor required for a summer schedule where skills of collaboration, problem solving, analysis, presenting, performing and time management are perfected.

Recent Lambert graduate Carlie Maze, who enters Coastal Carolina University this fall, has been in multiple community and high school theatre productions. Several of her friends heard that Theatre 5230 was holding auditions so they all decided to try out. She is excited by “an amazing cast of actors of different ages and a compelling story” resulting in what she thinks will be a “very energetic and entertaining show”. She added that it actually has been a very hard show to do but that the work she has put into it has been “extremely worth it”. Maze says her parents have encouraged and supported her through the years including vocal, acting and dance lessons with 10 auditions for college. She is very excited about her college choice, and while Broadway is her ultimate goal, is also interested in TV/Film, and wants to travel the world.

Fellow Lambert graduate Evie Lawson has been accepted into University of Oklahoma for musical theatre and is excited about playing the character of Skylar, the “mean girl” who ends up having a “change of heart”. Similar to Maze, Lawson has also been in multiple other theatre productions in her youth, but finds community theatre especially fun as “you get to hang with people who have chosen to be there”. Her parents have encouraged her love of the theatre and she appreciates the fact that her mom drove or flew her to 17 colleges this past year to audition. She knows too the investment made for her various lessons and show fees have been significant. She is hopeful though that this will be something she does the rest of her life – and even if the odds say she may not be a big star, she still believes that if theatre only allows her to make enough to get by, it would still be the best job ever.

For theatre buffs, Lin-Manuel Miranda was co-composer and lyricist for the 2012 Broadway production which originally premiered at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. This musical brings the thrill of extreme competition to the stage, as two high school cheer squads journey to claim the National Cheerleading Championships title. With a colorful assortment of characters, an exciting fresh sound and explosive choreography, this hilarious, universal story is the perfect answer for the summer doldrums.
