Siemens Merit Scholarships
Ruby Smith, a senior at West Forsyth High School, has just been named a recipient of the Siemens Merit Scholarships. Ruby is 1 of 150 students in 25 states who earned the scholarship, which provides each student with $4,000 for tuition over the course of their college years, given in installments of $1,000 per academic year.

The Siemens Merit Scholarship is given to children of Siemens U.S. employees. Recipients are chosen based on high PSAT scores as well as their academic record, activities, contribution to the community, school recommendation and an essay about personal characteristics, plans and goals. Family financial circumstances are not taken into consideration in the selection of winners. All phases of the competition, including the selection of winners and payment of awards, are handled by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), an independent not-for-profit organization.
This year, the Siemens Foundation awarded close to $600,000 in scholarship funds on behalf of participating Siemens divisions. By recognizing outstanding performance, the Siemens Foundation hopes to encourage and inspire the next generation of scientists, researchers and thinkers to propel America forward.

Comcast Leaders and Achievers
Three Cumming residents were recently awarded 2012 Comcast Leaders and Achievers scholarships. They are: Victoria Glass, Forsyth Central High School; Shane Lyons, South Forsyth High School; and Taylor Wingard, North Forsyth High School.
Statewide, 83 students were selected for the scholarship program based on a combination of academic success, extracurricular involvement and community service.
The 2012 Georgia Leaders and Achievers recipients represent 53 different cities across the state of Georgia and were honored during a pre-game celebration at Turner Field before the June 15 Braves game. The celebration included remarks from Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and appearances by numerous state and local elected officials.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to be prepared for the future, to engage youth in their communities, and to demonstrate the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.
