🌱Man Arrested With 15 Pistols + W. Forsyth Alum Returns To Kansas St.

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cumming.

Morning, neighbors. I'm here with your fresh copy of the Cumming Daily, filled with all the things you need to know about what's going on in town.

Did you know: On this date, July 28, 1914, using the assassination of the Austrian archduke Francis Ferdinand as a pretext to present Serbia with an unacceptable ultimatum, Austria-Hungary declared war on the Slavic country, sparking World War I.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and humid. High: 92 Low: 73.

Here are the top three stories today in Cumming:

  1. Authorities arrested a Canadian man carrying a backpack with 15 pistols in a Publix parking lot on Atlanta Road. According to an affidavit filed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, William McDonald told federal authorities he was smuggling guns from the U.S. into Canada. Agents saw McDonald meet with a person in the Publix parking lot at 580 Atlanta Road before driving to an "island" in the parking lot where a gray backpack had been discarded. McDonald placed the backpack in the passenger side of his vehicle and tried to drive away, but ATF agents detained him. Agents found 13 Taurus pistols and two Glock pistols, according to the affidavit. McDonald told agents he had smuggled weapons at least two times before this incident and on this trip was to deliver the guns to an unknown person in the Ogden, New York area before smuggling them into Canada, according to the affidavit. McDonald was charged with violating federal law related to smuggling. McDonald is being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals. (Gainesville Times)

At 6-foot-4, 297 pounds, Huggins, a 2017 West Forsyth graduate, plays defensive tackle for the Wildcats. He played 10 games last year, recording three sacks, 21 tackles and six for loss. Drivers traveling in the opposite direction of the bus on a multi-lane road that has a permanent barrier or grass/concrete median do not have to stop, but should still slow down and drive with caution.
