Drowning Victim Pulled From Lake Lanier Identified

A 20-year-old was with friends Monday evening when he began having difficulty swimming, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

A young man died early Tuesday morning after rescuers pulled him from Lake Lanier on Monday evening.

The victim has been identified as Quentin Aaron Muse, 20, of Braselton.

Muse was swimming with his friends at the beach in Shady Grove Campground. He was swimming back to shore when he called out for help before going under, according to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

A friend had attempted to swim back toward him, but was unable to pull Muse to the surface. That young man was treated for water inhalation at the scene.

First responders arrived within minutes of dispatch and the Fire Department Dive Team had pulled Muse to the surface within 15 minutes. It’s believed he was underwater for more than 40 minutes before he was located.

Foul play is not suspected at this time. Muse was not wearing a life-jacket.
