Missing 12 Year Old Contacted Her Mother, Authorities Say

The girl, who authorities say may have been abducted, is believed to be with her biological father.

GAINESVILLE, GA — A 12 year old girl who authorities believe was abducted last week has contacted her mother.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Brooklyn Smith, of Gainesville, "told her mother that she is with friends and she is OK" during a telephone call.

The call came from a blocked telephone number, the sheriff's office said.

An AMBER alert was issued for Brooklyn on Friday, with authorities saying she was believed to be in extreme danger.

The sheriff's office said Sunday that it's believed Brooklyn is with her biological father.

"However, we are exploring all possibilities," the news release said.

Smith is a white female, 5'2". She was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts when last seen. She may be riding in a dark Ford Taurus with Steven Spires, 31, sheriff's deputies say.

They are believed to be in the metro Atlanta area.
