There's little magic to be had from watching "Now You See Me," a splashy, noisy and frankly preposterous action caper about a quartet of illusionists with a Robin Hood complex. For all the talent up on the screen β€” and one can't fault the performances β€” the movie just doesn't deliver.Β β€” Gary Goldstein, LA Times

The problem is that, in focusing on what makes a good caper, director Louis Leterrier forgot about what makes a good movie: character development, carefully constructed tension and believable plot points. β€” Stephanie Merry, The Washington Post

It's all about the game, the tricks, with no deeper context or involving motivation other than a vaguely stated impulse for Robin Hood-ish redistribution of wealth. β€”Β Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

At times, "Now You See Me"Β suggests Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige"Β made with a throwaway wink. The actors . . . look like they're having so much fun that you can forgive the periodic arbitrariness of it all. β€” Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
