Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. The 5th Annual City of Cumming Music Festival will take place at Cumming Fairgrounds today. Presented by 37 Main, the 2022 music fest will host performances by cover bands ranging from The Eagles, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Grateful Dead to Bad Company, Bob Segar, Kid Rock and The Black Crows.   2. The Great American Boat Parade is coming to Lake Lanier today. Organizers anticipate 800 to 1,000 participants in attendance. The event will happen midday beginning in the Buford Dam area and heading up the main channel to the area between Port Royale and Sunrise Cove Marina. John Gunter, an organizer of the event, said about 200 people were already registered as of Tuesday. The goal of the parade is to raise awareness for first responders and veterans while "celebrating the freedoms" enjoyed as Americans. Participants will gather around 11:30 a.m. and the ceremonies will begin at noon, commencing with a prayer and the national anthem. (Forsyth County News)
  3. Buff City Soap opened its first location in Canton on July 21. The locally-owned soap-making company celebrated its grand opening at 1810 Cumming Highway, Suite 36. The brand, based out of Dallas, Texas, offers customizable, completely plant-based products, including handcrafted soaps, bath bombs and more (CBS46).
  4. The Forsyth County Animal Shelter has waived its $85 pet adoption fee for all animals through September 6 as part of the Summer of Love adoption program. All pet adoptions include microchipping, spaying/neutering, and age appropriate vaccinations. The Forsyth County Animal Shelter provides animal adoptions Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (678) 965-7185 or visit the Forsyth County Animal Shelter's webpage. The mission of B.A.D.G.E. is to give back to employees of the Forsyth County Service Organizations that serve and protect and to restore confidence, hope and peace of mind through financial and other support when unforeseen or unwelcome circumstances enter their lives.
