Here are the top stories in Cumming today:
- A Cumming-based brewery has announced plans to open a second location in Gainesville's midtown. The new outpost for the NoFo Brew Co. and Distillery is slated to open next year near the Midland Greenway. Construction on the 18,214-square-foot warehouse is set to begin in August. (Forsyth County News Online)
- A Cumming student has committed to swim for Milligan University's class of 2026. Caleb Fry, a recent graduate of Fideles Christian School, is currently a competitor with Swim Atlanta. Fry's personal best times are set to break the current team records for the Milligan Buffalos. (SwimSwam)
- Registration for Forsyth County Schools for the 2022-2023 school year is due Friday, Jul. 29. Parents can register their students at the Student Registration Building, located at 1140 Dahlonega Highway in Cumming. Registration appointments can be made using the available form on the district's website. (Forsyth County Schools via Twitter)
- Emma Claire Seaney has been named Player of the Year for the 2022 Forsyth County News All-County Girls Lacrosse Team. Coaches say the senior at North Forsyth High School in Cumming played a key role in facilitating her team's attack from midfield, scoring 53 goals. The North Forsyth Raiders ended the season with a 15-4 record, reaching the program's first-ever playoff birth and victory. (Forsyth County News Online)
- New legislation took effect Friday authorizing the use of autonomous delivery robots in the state of Georgia. A corresponding bill, House Bill 1009, has been sponsored by Representative Todd Jones of Forsyth County and outlines regulations to govern the robots, including where and when they can operate and at what speeds. Jones says he hopes that easing the way for businesses to use delivery robots will help policymakers show corporate prospects that the state is technology-friendly. (Forsyth County Herald)
