Northside Hospital-Forsyth Awarded for "Exceptional" Cardiovascular Care

Northside Hospital and its facilities in Forsyth and Cherokee counties were recently awarded the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Mission: Lifeline® Receiving Center Quality Achievement Award.

The award commends Northside's "commitment and success in implementing exceptional standards of care for heart attack patients," according to a press release from the hospital. 

"Northside Hospital is committed to improving the standards of care and patient outcomes of our heart attack patients," said Liz Sobczyk, director of cardiovascular services at Northside. "We are pleased that our efforts are being recognized, and I am very proud of our team."

Across the country, nearly 300,000 people each year suffer a STEMI, or ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, the most severe form of heart attack. 

A STEMI occurs when a blood clot completely blocks an artery to the heart and to prevent death, it's critical to restore blood flow either by non-surgical PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention), coronary bypass surgery or clot-busting medication.

As a STEMI-receiving hospital, all three Northside hospitals have the staff, equipment, facilities and other resources needed to perform PCIs. 

Northside offers a wide range of diagnostic, treatment and support services – encompassing the entire continuum of care for the heart patient.

A team of board-certified cardiologists, cardiac-trained nurses and technologists at Northside has the highest level of expertise in diagnosing and treating disorders like coronary artery blockages, congenital heart defects and heart failure.  In
