Pay Increase Begins In October For Forsyth Bus Drivers, Monitors

CUMMING, GA — Due to a labor shortage, Forsyth County Schools is adjusting the salaries of bus drivers and bus monitors starting on Oct. 1.

Examples of hourly increases include:

• Beginning drivers: moving from $16.61 to $17.84 (6.9 percent increase)
• A top of the pay scale driver: moving from $23.97 to $27.99
• Bus monitors: moving from $14.24 to $15 (5.3 percent increase)

Forsyth County Schools, the largest employer in Forsyth County, is making this adjustment to be more competitive in the job market for the recruitment and retention of employees. Currently, there is a severe state and nationwide school bus driver shortage. Forsyth County Schools is 75 bus drivers short, which has required other transportation staff to fill in and drive daily bus routes.

The local school bus driver shortage is causing some routes to run behind schedule often, and has required other routes to be combined to provide transportation to all Forsyth County Schools families where needed.

Forsyth County Schools bus drivers and bus monitors also receive:

• Training
• Full-time benefits
• Paid sick leave
• Holidays and weekends off
• Summer vacation (with a paycheck)
• College opportunities for employee children
• Reduced rates for after-school childcare

As part of the planning for the 2022-23 school year operational budget, Forsyth County Schools will evaluate the lowest pay bands to be competitive in the job market.
