Two Republican candidates for the District 5 seat failed to reach the 50 percent of the vote in May needed to avoid a runoff.

Justin Hawkins and Laura Semanson are seeking the Republican nomination for the District 5 seat vacated by incumbent Jim Boff, who did not seek re-election.

In a three-way race, Semanson earned 43 percent of the vote in the May primary and Hawkins took 32 percent -- neither reaching the 50 percent needed to avoid a runoff under Georgia law.
