Publix Super Markets Charities Donates to Habitat North Central Georgia
Publix Super Markets Charities Support Habitat Home in Cumming.

Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) has announced that it will donate $5.5 million to Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the Southeast. The donation will provide funding to over 120 affiliates and build more than 60 new houses in 2017. Habitat North Central Georgia was selected as one of eight affiliates in Georgia to receive funds from the Publix Super Markets Charities. The $80,000 grant will fund the construction of a Habitat home in Cumming, which is due to start in January.
“We are truly blessed to have been selected by Publix Super Markets Charities as a recipient of this donation and full house sponsorship,” said Russ Hayes, Habitat North Central Georgia CEO. “We are grateful for the many years of support we have received from the Foundation, which, with this year’s grant, will have donated over one-half million dollars in support of our ministry since 2008 – providing funding for 11 new Habitat homes in our service area of North Fulton and Cherokee and Forsyth Counties. We have also partnered with several Publix employees over the years who are now Habitat homeowners.”
PSMC began its support of Habitat for Humanity in 1989 with its first contribution to Habitat for Humanity of East Polk County (Winter Haven, Florida). This year’s $5.5 million contribution to Habitat for Humanity affiliates is the Foundation’s largest gift in any year and will support more than 120 Habitat affiliates across the Southeast.

About Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia
Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has completed 287 homes serving over 1075 family members in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Each family is required to attend 6 educational classes and perform 200-300 sweat equity hours. Families earn between 30% and 60% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes from Habitat which provides them with a 30-year, no-interest loan. Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff to build their homes. These families not only get to experience the pride of homeownership but they also know that their lives will be changed forever. In addition to new home construction, Habitat North Central Georgia started a home repair program in 2014. To date, 25 repair projects have been completed serving veterans and seniors.
