Recent Grad Dies After Injury on Treetop Obstacle Course

A Cumming area young man died Wednesday after he was injured a week ago at a treetop challenge course in Knoxville, Tenn., according to Knoxnews.com.

Gregory Horan, 18, graduated this spring from Lambert High School.

An autopsy was performed Thursday morning, according to WATE.com.

Horan was on the Navitat Canopy Adventure course July 22 when he fell off a log hanging 15 feet in the air, according to reports. He became entangled in his safety harness with the cord around his neck.

After staff got him down, Horan was reportedly unresponsive, according to Local8Now.com. Emergency crews transported him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The canopy course, which opened less than a week before Horan was injured, features six different courses, 60 different elements and seven zip-lines.

The state’s Department of Labor is investigating the incident and the course remains closed since Horan was injured.

The attraction had just opened for business July 17 and had been promoting the first two weeks as ”kick-off days” before an official launch Aug. 1. The website no longer promotes a specific opening date.

“The thoughts and prayers of the entire Navitat and Ijams families have been, and will continue to be, with the family and friends of Gregory Horan,” Navitat representatives said in a statement released Thursday afternoon.
