Redistricting Begins for Forsyth County Schools
Many elementary, middle and high schools will be affected.
officials have started the difficult task of redistricting for the 2012-13 school year.
Schools that will be impacted include Chattahoochee, Coal Mountain, Cumming, Sawnee, Vickery Creek and Whitlow Elementary Schools; Liberty, Little Mill, North Forsyth, Otwell and Vickery Creek Middle Schools; and Forsyth Central, North Forsyth and West Forsyth High Schools.
School officials received a first draft of the redistricting maps on Thursday, Sept. 8.

School Board Chairman Tom Cleveland was contacted by Cumming Patch, but declined to comment.
A press release issued by the school system last week states that Forsyth County Schools have added 4,500 students since the last redistricting process in 2009 and that school officials need to move students where enrollment is disproportionate or has exceeded capacity of the buildings.

School officials are concentrating on three areas populating the new Kelly Mill Elementary School (a 7:40 a.m. start school), adjusting feeder patterns and moving students from and to
Students entering the fifth, eighth, tenth, eleventh or twelfth grades that are redistricted will have the option to stay at their current school. Those who choose to stay, however, must complete an Out-of-District form and provide their own transportation.
Feedback on the first draft will be collected until Sept. 30 from Local School Councils (LSC) that are impacted. After Monday, Sept. 12, these LSC will share details with their parents and community on how they will be gathering input during this process.
After school officials review feedback on the first draft, they will release a revised draft Oct. 17 and accept feedback for two more weeks.
Public forums will be held at Forsyth Central High School Auditorium on Oct. 25, for elementary and middle schools, and Oct. 27 for high schools. Both meetings will start at 7 p.m.
On Nov. 17 at 6 p.m., the Board of Education will approve the final redistricted lines.
