Retired Army Pilot Named Vietnam Veterans Member Of The Year

CUMMING, GA — A retired career Army helicopter pilot is the 2019 “Member of the Year” for Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Steve Masak, of Gainesville, who served two combat tours in Vietnam with an attack helicopter unit earning both the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Bronze Stars, was presented with his award at the organization’s December Holiday dinner.

According to President Gary Goyette, “Steve Masak not only produced the lions’ share of our chapter’s income through his fund-raising activities, but also has worked diligently to make our efforts on behalf of homeless veterans an absolute success.”

“Member of the Year” is the highest honor bestowed upon a member by the chapter and signifies exceptional individual performance in the furtherance of the organization’s motto, “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”

Masak served 22 years in the US Army before retiring to a highly successful career in corporate America.
