Here are the top four stories in Cumming today:
- Saddle up, partner! The rodeo is coming to the Cumming Fairgrounds this weekend. An annual Labor Day weekend event, the IPRA Rodeo lasts approximately 2.5 hours, featuring bull riding, bare back riding, barrel racing, cowgirl breakaway roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping and saddle bronc riding. Hours are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. Gates open two hours prior to the show for ticket sales. (Cumming Fairgrounds)
- Tired of schlepping to Ameris Bank or Lakewood Amphitheatre for a concert? Well, now you don't have to. The Sweetwater Café has been hosting house concerts to bring neighbors together to share an evening of food, friendship and great live music. Their next scheduled concert is 2017 International Folk Music Awards Artist of the Year Ordinary Elephant, Sunday Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck beginning at 5:30 p.m. (Sweetwater Cafe)
- Anyone want free tickets to this year's House of Four Scythes Haunted Attraction? Volunteers will be hiding envelopes with a voucher for two free tickets around Forsyth County for the next month. Volunteers will post pictures of the hidden ticket locations on Facebook and Instagram. Winners must post a photo with the winning tickets on Facebook and Instagram and tag Four Scythes Haunt. Contestants can only win once during the contest and tickets will be valid any night of the attraction until Oct. 29. (Forsyth County News)
- Kira Young, a 2010 kindergarten graduate of The Goddard School in Suwanee, is this year's recipient of the 14th Annual Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship. The $10,000 award is granted to those who demonstrate the work ethic, perseverance and commitment to the community that exemplifies Anthony A. Martino, founder of The Goddard School franchise system. This shortcut is not replacing the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255), but will serve as an easy alternative for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.
