The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cumming.
Good morning, everybody. Happy Friday. I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening in town. Here's the lowdown...
Fun Fact: On this day in 1908, General Motors was founded by William C. Durant, the largest seller of horse-drawn vehicles at the time. (Wikipedia)
Today's weather:
Mostly sunny and nice. High: 84 Low: 61.
Here are the top three stories today in and around Cumming:
- Sawnee EMC has awarded over $38,000 to 10 local charities and 12 teacher projects. The proceeds were generated in part from co-op members who participate in the company's Operation Round Up Program each month. The program allows participating members to round up their electric bill to the next dollar, which is then put into the foundation. On average, participating members contribute about $6 per year. (Appen Media)
- In the mood for some BBQ? Well, Butts and Barley Smokehouse is reopening today at 4 p.m. at the same location, 11474 Cumming Hwy. in Canton. Closed since 2020 due to a death in the family, the restaurant is also looking for weekend workers, including servers, dishwashers and food runners. (Facebook)
- South Forsyth High School offensive lineman Nathan Efobi will be taking an official recruiting visit to the University of Michigan next weekend as the Wolverines take on Maryland. This will be Efobi's first ever visit to Ann Arbor. Michigan offered the 6-foot-4, 282-pounder senior back in July and the War Eagle lineman instantly expressed strong interest in the program. Efobi also has offers from Duke, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, NC State, Penn State, Vanderbilt and other schools. (247 Sports)
