Search For Missing Lanier Christian Student Under Way
Maria Leggiero, 14, was last seen playing soccer in her backyard in Braselton Tuesday afternoon, police say.
UPDATE: Police reported Wednesday afternoon that Maria Leggiero was found safe at a park in her neighborhood and is now back home.
BRASELTON, GA — A massive search was under way Wednesday for a 14-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Braselton on Tuesday afternoon.
Maria Leggiero, a student at Lanier Christian Academy in Flowery Branch, was last seen around 4 p.m., playing soccer in the back yard of her home in the Legends neighborhood of Chateau Elan Estates.

High school classes were canceled at Lanier Christian on Wednesday, as roughly 200 students, parents and others joined law enforcement in the search.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, Maria stands about 5'2" and weighs about 110 pounds, with blonde hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue school uniform shirt with Lanier Christian Academy written on it and was wearing eyeglasses.

She may be carrying a hot pink bag and a light green backpack, authorities say. She did not have her cellphone with her.
