ICYMI: Sections of Big Creek Greenway To Close

The trail will be closed in one spot for work on Ga. 400 and another spot for repairs and renovations.

CUMMING, GA -- Two sections of Forsyth County's Big Creek Greenway multi-use trail will be temporarily closed beginning Tuesday, May 31.

One of the closures is related to a widening project on Ga. 400, while the other is to allow for renovation and repairs to be made to that section of the trail.

Part of the trail -- from Mile Marker 1.3 to Mile Marker 1.4 -- runs underneath Ga. 400. Work is currently underway on the highway to add an additional lane in each direction from McFarland Parkway to Ga. 369.

As part of that work, bridges are being widened. The section of the Big Creek Greenway that runs beneath the highway will be closed May 31 and is expected to last about 90 days, with a target reopening date of August 31.

The section is marked by McFarland Parkway on one end and the Union Hill Road trailheads on the other.

At Union Hill Trailhead North, a renovation project is scheduled to begin, also on May 31.

The work will begin at the trailhead and extend about a half-mile north to Mile Marker 0.4.

The project includes repairing and replacing about 200 feet of boardwalk and foundation. It is slated to be complete by August 31, barring weather delays.

Signs announcing the closures will be posted in both areas.

All four of the Big Creek Greenway trailheads will remain open throughout these closures.
