Sheriff's Deputies Seize Kilo of Heroin from Cumming Home

One person is in custody so far, but deputies are still investigating the crime.

A man is in the Forsyth County jail on Wednesday evening after a law enforcement operation discovered more than a kilogram of heroin inside a home in Cumming.

According to a release from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, investigators began digging into allegations regarding a cache of drugs being held in the home for distribution to the north metro area approximately three days ago. The undercover operation ended on Wednesday, when sheriff’s deputies raided the home, arrested one person, and seized the drugs.

According to WSB-TV, the amount of heroin seized during the operation on Monday was enough to create around 16,000 individual hits of the opiate. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Rainwater told Patch that the heroin seized on Wednesday was 90 percent pure and uncut.

A statement released by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said that the street value of the seized heroin was anywhere from $150,000 to $250,000.

“Our deputies are passionate about their jobs and this community,“ Sheriff Duane K. Piper said in a statement. “All of them worked quickly and diligently over the past few days to make this arrest.”

The identity of the man who was arrested will not be released while the investigation is ongoing, but deputies did say that the man had not lived in Forsyth County for more than a few months.
