Shots Fired During North Forsyth Drug Arrest
Meth and a "large amount" of cash were found on the suspect.
CUMMING, GA – Law enforcement officers fired shots during a traffic stop that resulted in a drug arrest Tuesday night in north Forsyth County.
According to a sheriff’s office spokesman, Vanus Nichols, 34, of Cumming, attempted to strike a deputy with his car, leading to the shooting.
“Deputies were forced to open fire on the suspect’s vehicle, to avoid being struck,” Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez said in an email.

No one was injured in the incident, which happened shortly before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Jot Em Down and Gib Evans roads, just west of Ga. 400.
Nichols is charged with aggravated assault on an officer, as well as possession of methamphetamine.

Rodriguez said Nichols also had a “large amount” of cash in his vehicle.
As is customary, the deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation into the shooting is conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
