South Forsyth Project Would Widen McGinnis Ferry Road

A public-information open house on the project is scheduled for January 10.

CUMMING, GA — A proposed road project in south Forsyth County would widen McGinnis Ferry Road between Sargent Road and Union Hill Road/Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

A public-information, open house meeting on the project is set for 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical School in Cumming.

The project would widen McGinnis Ferry for about 4.5 miles, according to county officials.

The proposed design includes two lanes in each direction, with a 20-foot wide raised median, a 16-foot shoulder along the north with a multi-use path and a 12-foot wide shoulder on the south with a sidewalk.

Forsyth County is overseeing the design of the project with the Georgia Department of Transportation, the city of John's Creek and the city of Alpharetta providing input.

A 2014 transportation bond approved by voters is paying for $18.1 million of the project. The Georgia DOT has committed another $10 million.

Citizens are invited to attend the open house, which will be informal. The proposed design plans will be on display.

"An informal open house of this nature is meant to inform residents and allow for more opportunities to
answer individual questions," said Forsyth County Director of Engineering John Cunard. "We look forward to speaking with county residents and sharing the proposed plans."

Lanier Technical College is at 3410 Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Cumming.
