South Forsyth Students Attend 'Leadercon'

The conference for students who excel in engineering was held in Jekyll Island.

CUMMING, GA — Engineering students from South Forsyth High School attended the Technology Student Association Fall Leadership Conference — also known as Leadercon — in Jekyll Island over the weekend.

Students competed in the VEX Robotics Tournament, Electrothon Car Competition, Armada Boat Race and gave a presentation to their peers.

The school's two VEX Robotics teams — dubbed 1961A and 1961D — continued their dominance from thus far this season. The South Forsyth teams created a three-team alliance with Ola High School and won the event in dominating fashion.

Two South Forsyth Electrothon teams competed on Saturday as well. The teams had to combat very windy conditions on the race course during the race. One team had a mechanical failure and dropped out of the race just past the halfway point.

The other completed the whole race and finished 3rd overall.

The SFHS Armada boat team finished 2nd overall. The theme of the event is to "build a boat and hope it floats."

Students must design and build a boat out of duct tape and cardboard that will carry two students across a swimming pool without sinking.

South Forsyth also had students present to their peers about a new high school TSA coding competition.

The students discussed the competition and informed others of the new rules for the upcoming competitions at State TSA this spring.
