Special Election For Forsyth Commission Seat Called

District 2 Commissioner Rick Swope, the board's vice-chairman, resigned because of a new job he has taken.

CUMMING, GA — A special election has been called to fill the seat of Forsyth County Commissioner Rick Swope, who recently resigned from his post.

The District 2 election will be held Nov. 7, county officials announced Thursday. The special election will fill Swope's unexpired term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2020.

District 2 covers much of the southern portion of Forsyth County. Qualifying for the special election will take place from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Aug. 31 and 9 a.m.-noon on Friday, Sept. 1.

It will be held at the Voter Registrations and Elections office in Suite 200 of the Forsyth County Administration Building at 110 E. Main St. in Cumming. The qualifying fee is $1,047.02.

Swope announced his resignation from the commission on Aug. 15. He has accepted an executive position with financial services company E*Trade and the job does not allow outside activities that include serving in public office, the county said in a news release.

The Board of Commissioners is made up of five members, each living in a specific district and elected by district to serve four-year terms. Only voters residing in District 2 will be eligible to vote in the special election. The voter registration deadline for the special election is Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Advance Voting will be offered from Monday, Oct. 16 through Friday, Nov. 3, with hours and
locations to be set at a later date.
