Spring Season Ends on High Note for Miracle League

Miracle League spring season comes to a close with a family gathering at Coal Mountain Park.

Players, coaches, buddies, and families gathered for a final time during the Spring 2011 season at Miracle League field at Coal Mountain Park this weekend. It was, according to Jerry Dupree, "a family reunion for all our families." Dupree, president of the Cumming-Forsyth Miracle League shared that during the season families are at the field at various times and do not get a chance to visit.

According to Carroll Edge, a retired military colonel, there were 128 athletes on ten teams this year. Edge currently serves as co-fundraising chair for the league. "He makes things happen," said Steve Kirby of Edge. Kirby, league treasurer is also player parent.

With names fashioned after the professional teams, athletes in Cumming-Forsyth Miracle League play for the A's, Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Marlins, Orioles, Pirates, Reds, Tigers, and Yankees.

Liberty Middle School student and Braves player Andres Suarez showed his trophy and shared  hitting "100" home runs.

Emmy Miller and teammate Brielle Stull were co-recipients of "Most Joyous Player" on the Cardinals.

The Millers make games a family affair as Emmy's four siblings, Aidan, Brandon, Evan, and Patrick are also teammates. Dad, Steve, is Volunteer Coordinator for the league. Mom, Tammy, brought along siblings Kieran, Teagan, and Kellan. The remaining three Millers, Mackenzie, Ryann, and Sydney were "out and about," according to mom.

Connor Morton was a fill-in announcer this season. After a conversation with Dupree, the Otwell Middle School student will hold the post full-time next season.  He is brother to Yankee player Heather, 17, a student at West Forsyth. The elder Morton sibilings were joined by mom Kelly and sisters Anna and Amber.

Fellow Yankee player, Clay Williams, 7, attending with his parents, Donna and Jeff sat atop his dad's shoulders while waiting in the food line.

"Old Timers" Kelly Wise and Noah Chambers have participated in the league for a number of years and enjoy playing and socializing.
