Here are the top stories in Cumming today:
- Stars and Strikes is having a grand reopening next weekend Oct. 21-23 as the entertainment center has expanded its arcade with brand-new games. During the reopening, Stars and Strikes will offer buy one get one on game cards and laser tag. Stars and Strikes is located at 133 Merchants Square. (Stars & Strikes)
- To provide residents and business leaders with an opportunity to gain insight about the future of transportation in Forsyth County, the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and The Rotary Club of Forsyth County will host the 2022 Transportation Summit today at Browns Bridge Church. Speakers include Russell McMurry, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation, and Alfred John, chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. Limited seating is available at no cost but to reserve a seat and a meal ticket, it's $35. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. (Forsyth County Transportation Summit)
- Advance voting for the Nov. 8 General Election and Special Election will begin Oct. 17 for Forsyth County registered voters. Advance voting times and locations vary by date so be sure to check the link for accurate information. (Subscription: Forsyth County Government)
- A Cumming woman is dead following a Tuesday night wreck on Highway 20 near the entrance of Lakeland Plaza shopping center. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, first responders were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. to an accident involving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and a semi-truck. Alison Flowers, 43, the driver of the Sonata, was traveling westbound when she turned in front of the semi-truck while attempting to get in the left turning lane. Flowers died at the scene. (Patch)
