State Schools Superintendent Visits South Forsyth Middle School

Georgia Schools Superintendent Dr. John Barge was in Forsyth County Friday recognizing a middle school which had received a national award for its academic success.

South Forsyth Middle School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2014 for its exceptional performance on standardized tests and its innovative use of data to improve education. 99 percent of South Forsyth students either met or exceeded the standard on state competency tests this year.

South Forsyth also reinforces lessons taught in Study Skills sessions in other classes, allows students to use their mobile devices to enhance lessons, and has a robust extra-curricular activities repertoire including sports, student organizations, and inquiry-based learning.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was established in 1982 to recognize schools in the United States which had either achieved extremely high performance or had made great strides in closing the achievement gap for disadvantaged students.
