Three Forsyth County Student Athletes, One Coach Recognized

A total of 42 athletes were honored at the Atlanta Track Club's All-Metro Cross Country Awards Banquet, including students of Cumming.

From the Atlanta Track Club: Three Forsyth County student athletes were among the 42 runners honored by Atlanta Track Club at its All-Metro High School Cross Country Awards Banquet at The Stave Room in Midtown Atlanta. Each year, Atlanta Track Club hosts the All-Metro Awards Banquet as part of its commitment to recognize outstanding high school track and field and cross country athletes.

The Forsyth County students who received All-Metro honors are:

  • Kaylee DuPont – Junior at South Forsyth High School
  • Liz Galarza – Senior at West Forsyth High School
  • Tyler Fox – Junior at Lambert High School

The All-Metro athletes were selected based on criteria including major event wins, performance at the state meet and a complete season overview. The coaches and the community then voted to determine the athletes’ placement as 1st Team, 2ndTeam or 3rd Team honorees. The 1st Team All-Metro honorees received a $500 scholarship from Atlanta Track Club. DuPont and Galarza were among those selected for the 1st Team.

“These harriers represent some of Georgia’s most talented athletes, and we are proud to celebrate their accomplishments alongside their parents and coaches at the 53rd annual All-Metro High School Cross Country Awards Banquet,” said Rich Kenah, Atlanta Track Club’s executive director.

One boy and one girl were named Most Outstanding Cross Country Athlete. The 2016 Most Outstanding Athletes are:

  • Sam Bowers – Junior at Milton High School
  • Serena Tripodi – Senior at Lovett School

Two coaches were also acknowledged for their outstanding dedication to the sport of cross country. The coaches were chosen from a group of community nominations. Coach Jason Scott of Harrison High School received the Paul Koshewa Award for his work with the girls cross country team, while Coach James Tigue of Lambert High School’s boys cross country team was the recipient of the Jerry Frasier Award.
