Three Months After Forsyth Courthouse Shooting, Authorities Release Surveillance Video
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is expected to complete its investigation into the June 6 shootout shortly, authorities said.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has released dramatic surveillance footage recorded at the Forsyth County Courthouse on the morning of June 6, when sovereign citizen Dennis Marx attempted an attack on the building.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still working the courthouse shooting, but is expected to close its investigation soon. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dep. Robin Regan said that his office cannot provide additional information until the investigation is officially wrapped up, but was allowed to release the security camera footage depicting the shootout between Marx and deputies.
Marx, a self-identified “sovereign citizen,” felt that the United States government was the enemy of the people and that it should be violently overthrown. Marx, who was facing the loss of his right to keep and bear arms, decided to attempt to storm the courthouse to force a protracted siege and hostage situation, Breitbart reported in the days following the shooting. Instead of making his way into the courthouse to carry out his goals, Marx was shot and killed outside the facility by deputies.

Dep. Daniel Rush, a 25-year veteran of the force and the first deputy to encounter Marx after he drove up to the courtyard just before 10 a.m., exchanged fire with the man before he could enter the courthouse building. Rush, who received a gunshot wound to the leg and suffered a broken fibula and tibia, was hailed as a hero by Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper.
“From watching the video several times now, [Daniel Rush] averted what would have been a whole lot more deaths,” Piper said.

Rush was working the doorway of the courthouse when Dennis Marx drove his SUV up to the courthouse. Heavily armed, Marx tossed out homemade smoke grenades, pepper spray grenades and spike sticks as he approached the courthouse.
