Tots About Town
Keep boredom at bay this summer with fun and educational outings that cater to the inquisitive nature of your preschooler.
Mandy Cavanaugh, local mother of two boys, started Tots About Town in the summer of 2008. “I was always having problems trying to find something to do with my three-year-old,” Cavanaugh recalls. “I had a little bit of event and conference planning under my belt from my pre-mommy days, so I just started planning events around the community.”
There is an outing to satisfy every child’s boundless curiosity. What goes on behind those double doors at? What do firefighters do when they aren’t fighting fires? How does make all that ice cream? What really happens at the car wash? Where are the MARTA trains going? Is the back of an ambulance scary? What is it like working on a farm? Explore the answers to all of these questions and more with Tots About Town this summer.
Outings are typically on weekday mornings between 9:30 and 11:30 when businesses can take the time to give their undivided attention to the kids. Group sizes are kept small, around 10-15 children, and are geared towards preschooler’s starting at age three and a half.

I had the privilege of joining Tots About Town on an outing to tour the new Children’s Healthcare of Forsyth at The Avenue. It was a blast! I wish my daughter was old enough to sign up for outings. It was a fun opportunity to connect with other moms while allowing kids to be kids. Mandy takes the headache out of getting the kids out of the house. All you have to do is show up! She even takes all the pictures while you enjoy participating with your child.
I love how this program gets children involved in our community and brings attention to local businesses stimulating the economy in our neighborhood. “We try and make it a win-win-win situation for the families, for the businesses, and for myself,” says Cavanaugh.
