Truck Carrying 6,000 Pounds Of Dynamite Overturns in Dawsonville

A truck carrying more than 6,000 pounds of dynamite overturned off Ga. 53 west of Lake Lanier in Dawsonville, the Sheriff's Office said.

DAWSONVILLE, GA — Several agencies worked together on a multicar accident on Ga. 53 east involving an overturned dynamite truck Tuesday morning into the afternoon. The section between Dawson Forest Road and Blue Ridge Overlook was closed, the Dawson County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday morning.

Dawson County Fire and Emergency Services said that the overturned truck was carrying 6,000 pounds of dynamite, or "Hazardous Materials (ammonium nitrate emulsion)."

"This vehicle overturned and leaked just a small amount of product," the department wrote on Facebook. "A hazmat clean up contractor is on scene and will be handling the mitigation of the incident. There are no homes that are in the immediate evacuation area."

Three other vehicles were involved in the accident which happened around 5:30 a.m. As of 2 p.m., the department said the roadway opened up.
