Truck Driver Dies In Single-Vehicle Crash On Canton Highway: FCSO
A 64-year-old truck driver was killed Wednesday after his vehicle veered off Canton Highway and ended in a ditch, the Sheriff's Office said.
CUMMING, GA — A 64-year-old truck driver died Wednesday when he vehicle left the roadway.
On Oct. 23 at 5:05 a.m., the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the Forsyth County Fire Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Canton Highway (Ga. 20) at Post Road.
The investigation has determined that a 2016 Freightliner (box type truck), driven by Desmond Smith, 64, of DeKalb County, was driving eastbound on Canton Highway near Post Road. The truck veered off the right side of the roadway and then back across the roadway coming to a stop in a ditch on the westbound side of Canton Highway.

Smith was pronounced deceased at a local hospital where he was transported by ambulance, Deputy 1st Class Matt Kirk, Traffic Investigator with the Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Unit.
