CUMMING, Ga., May 15, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, May 21, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 2395 Peachtree Parkway is conveniently located at Peachtree Parkway and Mathis Airport Road and is open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. It will provide Cumming residents shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
“We are pleased to see another Walmart store opening to provide additional shopping services for the citizens of fast growing Forsyth County,” said State Rep. Mark Hamilton. “Strong economic development is a critical part of our great community and instrumental in keeping our taxes low. This new store opening will benefit our citizens in many ways.”
Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $5,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Georgia donated approximately 19.2 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 16 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $37 million in fiscal year 2013 in Georgia alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. In 2000, store manager Zane McCusker began his Walmart career as an hourly overnight support manager in Athens, Georgia.
“This new store is not only providing a new shopping option to Cumming but also bringing approximately 300 jobs for area residents,” said McCusker.
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Cumming community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, May 24. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet McCusker and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
