Where and How To Recycle Your Christmas Tree in Forsyth County

The county's "Bring One For the Chipper" program runs from December 26 through January 30.

CUMMING, GA — Hopefully, they're all still lively and green and covered in lights now. But in a couple of weeks, you'll be looking for ways to get rid of the Christmas tree.

Keep Forsyth Beautiful is encouraging residents to recycle their trees during the annual "Bring One For the Chipper" event — which runs from December 26-January 30.

Last year, Forsyth County recycled 3,380 trees.

"Forsyth County has recycled 101,242 Christmas trees since the county began participating in the ‘Bring One for the Chipper’ program in 1994," county Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright said in a news release. "All of the Christmas trees brought to us for recycling have either been placed in the lake as fish habitat or chipped into reusable mulch. We look forward to keeping trees out of landfills every year."

On the designated dates and times, Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following Forsyth County locations:

  • Home Depot - 1000 Market Place Blvd. (Jan. 7, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
  • Home Depot - 2635 Peachtree Pkwy. (Jan. 7, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
  • Vickery Creek Elementary School - 6280 Post Rd. (Dec. 26-Jan. 7, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
  • Tolbert Street Recycling Convenience Center - 351 Tolbert St. (Dec. 26-Jan. 30, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Sundays)
  • Old Atlanta Recycling Convenience Center - 3678 Old Atlanta Rd. (Dec. 26-Jan. 30, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Sundays)
  • Coal Mountain Recycling Convenience Center - 3560 Settingdown Rd. (Dec. 26-Jan. 30, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Sundays)

All three county recycling convenience centers will close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, and remain closed until 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, in observance of New Year’s Day.

The centers also will be closed Monday, January 16, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Wood chips made from the recycled trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis year-round to county residents, just inside Coal Mountain Park located at 3560 Settingdown Rd. Residents are responsible for loading and hauling their own wood chips.
