The city is teaming up with nonprofit Gwinnett Recycles for a cleanup event on Mobley Drive.

DACULA, GA — Dacula is a beautiful city, but nonprofit Gwinnett Recycles is getting ready to involve the community in making it even more beautiful.

On Oct. 23, from 9-11 a.m., the city is teaming up with Gwinnett Recycles, which describes itself as a “team of citizen volunteers working to reduce waste going to landfills and the environment in Gwinnett County, Georgia” on a cooperative cleanup event on Mobley Drive.

Gwinnett Recycles does regular cleanup events with Gwinnett County cities, including one with Sugar Hill on Saturday.

In April, the nonprofit completed an in-depth litter study of every city in Gwinnett County. 125 volunteers collected 5.34 tons of trash, and analyzed 10,042 pieces of litter. They found that the number one causes of litter in Gwinnett cities were drink bottles, plastic bags, and snap wrappers, and that single-use plastic is by far the top source of litter.

The group teamed up with Break Free From Plastic, Environment Georgia, and a watershed protection specialist with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper to present the findings at a virtual Earth Day Town Hall.
