Everybody Freak Out! Social Media Mocks ATL Snow Response
It was shades of "Snowpocalypse" online Friday as metro Atlantans mourned, and mocked, the arrival of winter weather.

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta and winter weather have a long, uneasy relationship. Plenty of us remember 2014, when ice and two inches of snow turned the metro area's highways into a scene from "The Walking Dead."
As "Saturday Night Live" has rightly noted, we tend to not do so well when the generally balmy Georgia weather turns to snow and ice. So, on Friday, as rain, snow and the threat of ice caused schools, businesses and other locales to shut their doors, folks on social media couldn't help having a laugh at the whole thing.
"Apparently the whole city of Atlanta is freaking out and canceling everything because it’s snowing," one Twitter user wrote. "I just looked out my window and there is no snow on the pavement. In the Poconos people call this 'shorts weather.' "

Georgia Weather: A Snowy Morning, More On The Way
Another penned a bit of a dramatic narrative as traffic snarled throughout the area Friday afternoon in much the way it did during 2014's "Snowpocalypse."

"Atlanta meteorologists: It’s gonna snow tomorrow.
Atlanta: LOL ... don’t believe you
*it snows*
Atlanta: OK, if we all go home at noon everything will be good.
*city shuts down*"
Traffic and snow is a combination that had many folks talking on social media. A thread on Reddit highlighted the sometimes-stupid behavior our Atlanta-area friends and neighbors exhibit on the roads when winter weather hits.
"Driving home from work, half the cars I saw didn't have their lights on, particularly white and grey cars that are hardest to see in this weather," the thread begins. "Visibility is super low and roads are slick. Make sure people can see you!"
That earned a quick — and sarcastic — response.
"Contrary to popular belief, the best way to navigate the snow is headlights off, brake light bulbs pulled, seat belt off, with your phone to your face," another user wrote. "Don't forget to either go only 5 MPH, or to go 10 MPH over the speed limit and drive erratically like you do every other day."
Here's a look at how some other folks in and around Atlanta were weighing in on social media about the winter weather:
